From Concept to Mass Production
With the prototype of the Dash 3 completed, we were tasked with preparing it for mass production. This required a meticulous design optimization process centered on Design for Manufacturing (DFM). Here’s a breakdown of our approach:
Stage 1: Design Deep Dive
We began by evaluating the existing prototype through a comprehensive design study. Understanding the main components, their envisioned manufacturing method, and most challenging aspects for manufacturing.
Below is a brief overview of the results from the Dash 3's system level design study:
All carbon fiber parts, including the carbon fiber monocoque, were completely custom designed, with bespoke tooling.
The driveline (main drive motor) was custom, and involved a custom wound core.
The soft goods were custom, both in dimension and composition.
The majority of the remaining parts were COTS parts/systems, and would be sent to FATP ready for assembly.
