About Dashmoto

dashmoto® was born from the heart and soul of its creator Kim Ng, and is a testament to the transformative power of personal adversities.

Kim's passion for motorcycles, and the unfortunate spinal cord injury that challenged his mobility, became the catalyst for dashmoto®'s creation.

Faced with the limitations of existing solutions, Kim set out to craft more than just a scooter — he envisioned an extension of the body, a conduit to greater freedom.

dashmoto® is the realization of this vision, seamlessly melding with your essence to unlock newfound liberation.

The Dashmoto Dash 3

The Dashmoto Dash 3 represents the future of mobility—a cutting-edge carbon fiber monocoque trike that reimagines mobility. By addressing the common drawbacks of existing scooters—slowness, bulkiness, and uninspired design—Dashmoto brings the ethos of high performance and advanced technology to the mobility market.

From Concept to Mass Production

With the prototype of the Dash 3 completed, we were tasked with preparing it for mass production. This required a meticulous design optimization process centered on Design for Manufacturing (DFM). Here’s a breakdown of our approach:

Stage 1: Design Deep Dive

We began by evaluating the existing prototype through a comprehensive design study. Understanding the main components, their envisioned manufacturing method, and most challenging aspects for manufacturing.

Below is a brief overview of the results from the Dash 3's system level design study:

  • All carbon fiber parts, including the carbon fiber monocoque, were completely custom designed, with bespoke tooling.

  • The driveline (main drive motor) was custom, and involved a custom wound core.

  • The soft goods were custom, both in dimension and composition.

  • The majority of the remaining parts were COTS parts/systems, and would be sent to FATP ready for assembly.

Stage 2: DFM Feedback & Refinement

Dashmoto had already identified strategic manufacturing partners at this point in their product cycle, and so it was our job to manage that DFM feedback loop.

When dealing with any manufacturer, especially those overseas, it is critical to have a deep understanding of manufacturing capabilities

Stage 3: Production Support & Rollout

Collaborated with manufacturing teams to:

  • Validate production processes through pilot runs.

  • Resolve any design-to-production discrepancies.

  • Support quality assurance checks to ensure the final product met Dashmoto’s high standards.

Outcomes: A New Benchmark in Mobility Design

The Dash 3 is now poised for mass production, retaining its cutting-edge design while being optimized for scalability. This project exemplifies how thoughtful design and engineering can redefine a product category. With the Dash 3, Dashmoto is set to transform not just the mobility market but also perceptions of what mobility can be.
